AYOR was inspired by NSIBIDI, a system of symbols indigenous to what is now southeastern Nigeria that is apparently an ideographic script, though there have been suggestions that it includes logographic elements.

Isibidi Symbol
Nsibidi is an ancient symbol system developed by the Ejagham people of southeastern Nigeria and southwestern Cameroon. Classified primarily as pictograms, some symbols are believed to be logograms or syllabograms.
Europeans first encountered Nsibidi in 1903, when British officer Charles Partridge discovered the Ikom Monoliths along the Aweyong River, stone structures dating to roughly the 5th Century. He noted a striking connection between the markings on these stones and the tattoos worn by local women.
